TrueBeam STx, the most technologically advanced radiotherapeutic device used in cancer treatment, delivers treatment through its option of unfiltered compensated beams, allowing the beams to reach the patient extremely quickly. Its most significant feature is being a superior device that combines all advanced radiotherapy techniques such as IMRT, IGRT, pulsed RT, Rapidarc, SRT, and SBRT. Thus, all the new radiotherapeutic techniques of recent years are combined into a single device, and if desired, the treatment can be performed with the option of real unfiltered beams for the fastest, safest, and most efficient treatment.
Another important feature of the device is that, with an accuracy of less than 0.5 mm, it can determine the target with extremely high sensitivity and direct radiation to the tumour in a very short time. As the treatment time is reduced by 4 to 8 times, the time spent by the patient in a specific position without moving during irradiation is also reduced. This minimizes the uncertainty caused by tumour movements during the patient’s treatment.
What is TRUEBEAM?
The TrueBeam STx device has been supplemented with a second and more sensitive system that places the patient in the treatment position and provides the ability to monitor respiratory rate, control, and correct the position. Thanks to this additional system called Novalis-ExacTrac, a three-dimensional correction of the position is possible. With Truebeam, radiotherapy is possible under the guidance of more powerful imaging, and the beams can be applied to the target volume with a smaller margin. Thus, we are one step closer to preventing the irradiation of healthy tissue. With the new option for the production and application of radiation, designed differently from other treatment methods, the way to a new era of cancer treatment has been opened.
All new radiotherapy techniques are delivered in a single device.
- While the device can perform any type of simple irradiation, it also benefits from a conformal radiation modelling technique based on the tumour structure, IMRT techniques (intensity-modulated radiotherapy), as well as RapidArc (a treatment based on adjusting the intensity of the volume that shortens the patient’s treatment period) and radiosurgery methods with the most sensitive imaging and application possibilities.
- Also, with the help of the TrueBeam STx device, the SRS radio surgical technique is now possible, which focuses a high dose on a three-dimensional target, achieving the same results as the surgical removal of the target.
- Through the device, the SBRT technique can be performed, in which small-volume tumours anywhere in the body are safely treated in fewer sessions (3-5 sessions).
Healthy tissue is protected, and the treatment period is shortened by 4 to 8 times
The most important feature of the device is that it provides faster, safer, and more effective treatment. With this device, it is possible to determine a target with an accuracy of less than 0.5 mm and apply radiation to it in a very short time. Due to this feature, which allows the application of a very high dose in a single session, it is possible to successfully administer the treatment in a total of 3-5 sessions instead of 25-35 sessions. Since the treatment is reduced by 4 to 8 times, the time the patient needs to spend in a specific position during irradiation without moving is also reduced. Thus, the uncertainty caused by tumour movements during the patient’s treatment is also minimized. Radiotherapy has the ability to focus on the center of the target, meaning that healthy tissue is affected by fewer radiations. Also, due to the device’s ability to monitor the breathing rate during radiation application to organs such as the lungs, liver, and breasts, which require breathing, healthy tissues are less affected, and a higher dose can be applied.
Check the accuracy of the application in milliseconds.
The device, which is the most technologically advanced model among devices like linear accelerators still used in radiotherapy, applies the entire treatment through computerized control. The system minimizes human errors and checks the accuracy of the application throughout the treatment with checks at millisecond intervals using its collimator system located in its brain to ensure that the patient is treated according to the plan. The collimator system in the device ensures that the radiations are constantly checked so that the patient can receive the treatment in the most accurate form. The system displaying the treatment table and the patient’s position work in sync, increasing the speed and accuracy of patient positioning.
Provides treatment for all tumours requiring radiotherapy.
All tumours requiring radiotherapy can be safely treated with this device. It is especially useful for tumours located in the head and small-volume tumours in the body but located near vital organs. The device provides a suitable method for treating lung and spinal tumours and secondary series radiotherapy. Due to its accuracy, similar procedures to Gamma Knife therapy for localized head tumours that are not suitable for Gamma Knife therapy due to size and location can be performed with the help of the device.
What are the advantages?
Being the technologically highest-level device in cancer treatment, TrueBeam STx provides the patient with some very important advantages:
-
Makes it possible to treat the tumour with a high dose in a very short time. The radiotherapy period is reduced due to the ability to apply radiation in a very short time, increasing the accuracy of treatment and patient comfort.
-
Image quality is extremely enhanced, so radiologists have the opportunity to see smaller details better.
-
Also, with the help of IGRT (image-guided radiotherapy) systems, precise adjustment of the target position can be performed with more sensitivity and in a shorter time.
-
Additional radiations applied to patients by imaging systems are 25 percent less with this system.
-
Since the mechanical accuracy is less than a millimetre, this is crucial in terms of correctly focusing the beams on the target. This feature alone ensures that the patient’s treatment is performed according to plan.
-
The mechanical system’s ability to move faster than other devices reduces the treatment period by 4 to 8 times.
